Familiarity and Fluency
In the world, or of the world. We are distinct from the world, but not removed from it.
Sliders!
There's a form of backsliding that looks like taking the Lord's name in vain, claiming to be his but behaving like the world we were rescued from. Churches make much of this.
Our Deliverer
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Temptations, trials, and testing. The Greek word can mean all three. Jesus experienced these. And so did Stephen, Paul, and Jesus' other disciples.
Reunited
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. The Church's project is to bear God's name faithfully. God is relational, as evident in the Trinity. Our work with God is to rectify brokenness, especially broken relationships.
Dependency
There is something we will need tomorrow when it arrives. But first, there's today. We never come entitled. But we do come dependent.
Here, Like There
Many would have us believe that heaven is a place of escape when we die. But it's better to view heaven as the capital of another realm with a different government, a benevolent governance, and a distinctly different culture.
In Us. In Me.
Your will be done. I remember Henry Blackaby teaching in Experiencing God that "What is God's will for my life?" is the wrong question. The right question is "What is God's will?"
Your Roots Are Showing
The life that I bring to the world can only be found in my attachment to Christ. His presence with me is essential.
Inviting Invasion
God is altogether other. His kingdom is a rule of love. This kingdom comes as more and more people surrender to his rule in their work, play, relationships — all of life.
Altogether Other
Hallowed be your name. Holy is your name. God's name is his nature and reputation. To identify as holy is to say 'I am distinct. Completely other.
