We try to be independent, logical, and objective. Realistically, we are social, relational, and interdependent, formed in groups and families.
Legacy
The word for children, huios, suggests bearing someone's name authentically. It's participating with a forerunner. It's being of the same character as a parent, literal or figurative.
First Order
Love of God is primary in both the Old Covenant and the New. My gift of self to God looks like humility, surrender, and heart obedience. This sets the map for Jesus' close-second command, loving myself and my neighbor.
Ground Cloud
The fog of suffering and injustice is disconcerting. It's confusing and disorienting. We hear sounds we can't place: accusation, condemnation, ridicule, disaffiliation, dehumanization.
Orange Vests
Fred Rogers, Mister Rogers, was taught as a child to "look for the helpers." There will always be helpers.
Prepare to Repair
Sowing chaos in creation's soil yields a harvest of rot, strife, burdensome labor, and regret. Investing in people's flourishing builds toward something beautiful, hopeful, and pleasant.
Stiff-Necked and Unbowed
Being stubborn can be a good thing. The question is, who gets our allegiance?
Cure Rate
How long should it take to recover from harm, injury, or some other hurt? As long as necessary.
Cure Time
When God reveals something new to me, I need to give it cure time. Think about it, write about it, incorporate it into my life. Then, maybe I'll be ready to talk about it.
Clouds on the Horizon
Standing on the beach, looking inland. It's sunny here, but in the distance, we see dark clouds and lightning. Do we run to the car or stay?
Now, With Feeling
In High School band, we would sight-read a new piece, and it would sound mechanical. Eventually, our band director would say, "Now, with feeling!" Sometimes, we would write that on our music score as a reminder.
Love is Lord
It has been said that "Jesus is Lord" is a three-word summary of the gospel. If Jesus is God and God is love, it follows that Love is Lord.
